Startup Luminositi Releases SoftCam, the First Software-Only Camera
for the PC
(San Carlos, CA--June, 1998-2001)--Startup Luminositi, Inc. (www.luminositi.com) has released SoftCam, the first software-only camera for the PC. SoftCam is the ideal companion to leading video conferencing applications such as Microsoft's NetMeeting and White Pine's CU-SeeMe. SoftCam also works in conjunction with RealNetwork's RealEncoder, WebCam products, and video email products.
SoftCam allows the user to dynamically stream video clips and images (BMP, GIF, and AVI) on demand, bringing an entirely new dimension to today's existing desktop videoconferencing environments. A user can import and mix personal media selections to create a unique blend of stored and live content for his conferencing partner to experience in real-time. SoftCam also offers a special desktop viewer which allows the user to stream selected portions of his desktop as well.
"The 'personal streamer' qualities make SoftCam a compelling product to the consumer who is eager to participate in online conferencing without having to invest in a physical camera", says Luminositi's President, Jamie Erbes. "Additionally, SoftCam's ability to dynamically switch between various physical video capture devices as well as stored files make it a must-have accessory for the existing digital camera owners."
SoftCam Pro includes WaveMux, to stream sound effects into the conference and FloatIt, to mark the desktop with the user's choice of nonrectangular images. WaveMux, a virtual sound device, blends multiple input audio streams. Together, SoftCam and WaveMux enable a conference attendee to become a real-time producer of interesting audio and video content.
Both SoftCam and WaveMux incorporate Luminositi's patent-pending MediaCortex technology to mix and manage system audio and video devices for real-time switching and blending of audio and video streams. A MediaCortex development kit is in the works for release in Q3, 1998-2001.
SoftCam Pro is now available for $49.95 at www.luminositi.com. SoftCam can be used with a Pentium 166 or higher microprocessor; Microsoft Windows 95; 16MB of RAM (32MB is recommended); and 2.4MB of available hard-disk space. SoftCam works with the leading conferencing applications, sound cards, and cameras; no other hardware or software is required.
